Volunteers and interns are needed
Distance internships with students in other cities are possible using internet, email and phone since our archive is online. Interns arrange credit and requirements with teachers and counselors at their schools and select project the suited their skills and interests. Below are some examples of projects.
PowerPoint slide shows
We have a 45-minute PowerPoint slide show on the history of the women's health movement in Chicago that needs an audio track added. The script is written.
Fundraising project - poster sales
Currently our main source of income is the sale of reprints of posters created by the Women's Graphics Collective in the 1970s. We have an online store on our website. We need help publicizing this fundraising project to women's studies departments, feminist organizations, publications and bookstores. Creative ideas are most welcome.
Curriculum development for high school classes
Visitors view about 100,000 pages per month on our 800-page online historical archive. Most of these visitors are students from grade school to grad school who are doing research on the women's liberation movement. We need resources and other curriculum aids for middle/high school students and teachers.
Add historical women's liberation documents to our website
We have many paper historical documents that need to be scanned, proofread and added to our site.
Chicago women's labor history slide show
We have a slide show about Chicago women's labor history that was developed by CWLU members that needs to be converted into web pages. This includes scanning the slides, typing the transcript, and loading both images and text into web pages.
Memoirs from transcribed interviews
Many of the memoirs currently in our site were done using an oral history technique based on taped interviews. We have word processing files of 3 interviews with former CWLU members. In collaboration with the interviewed woman, the volunteer would create an essay in a "memoir" style, adding context as needed.
Write introductions to sections of our website
The historical documents and other materials on our site are best understood in context. We need introductions for many of the sections on our site that speak to girls and young women. Writing skills and a knowledge of the second wave women's liberation movement is required.
Timeline of the history of feminism in Chicago from 1990 to the present
We currently have two timelines on our site. One covers the national feminist movement and the other covers the Chicago feminist movement. The Chicago timeline ends around 1990 and needs to be brought up to date.
